The versioning of the edition website is based on the principles of semantic versioning, which are reflected in the three positions MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH of the version number.
Publications on the website that include changes in the character set of the edited texts, editorial comments, or data objects, such as index entries, result in a “major release” and increase the first position of the version number. Current and older “major versions” can be referenced and retrieved by version-specific permalinks, thus ensuring a stable textual basis for citation (see also How to cite).
Changes to the functionality or appearance of the website as well as purely additive additions of editorial contents result in a “minor release” and increase the second position of the version number.
Errors and minor modifications regarding functionality or appearance—but not the editorial content—are represented by so-called “patches” and increase the third position of the version number.
